The annual international conference of The European Federation of Food Science and Technology (EFFoST) will take place in Dublin, Ireland from 7-9 November2022. Bringing together food professionals to facilitate knowledge and technology exchange around this year's theme of shaping the production of sustainable, healthy foods for the future.

The Global Harmonization Initiative will present its special session namely “Global Harmonization Initiative - Available, sustainable, healthy food for the future through networking sound science“ within the conference on November 8 from 13:45 to 15:50am in room 441, Level 4.

Talks within the GHI special session will be: 

  • Nicola Stanley - Introduction to the Global Harmonization Initiative
  • John Points - The complexity of regulations for human milk
  • Nadiya Boyko - Healthy nutrition based on food-omics data and meeting 3P (predictive, preventive and personalized) medicine expectations
  • Eniola Oni - Aflatoxin assessment in blood serum of rural households consuming mouldy grains in Ogun State, Nigeria
  • Diána Bánáti - Edible insects for human consumption
  • Filiz Hazal - Food waste recovery: Microwave assisted extraction
  • Hilde Wijngaard - Challenges in valorising food waste for small and medium-sized enterprises

The session will be chaired by  Nicola Stanley and Hilde Wijngaard.

21st IUFoST World Congress of Food Science & Technology, 31 October – 3 November 2022, Singapore

In just a few days’ time, the future of food: innovation, sustainability and health will be discussed at a four-day global congress in Singapore. The congress delegates are gathering from all around the world for the 21st IUFoST World Congress of Food Science & Technology held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore (https://www.iufostworldcongress-singapore.com/home). They are all eager to share experience and generate new ideas. In addition to an opportunity to exchange scientific experience, the congress will present an opportunity for scientists and representatives of the food industry to meet face-to-face to discuss future collaborative work as in the good old days before Covid-19.

The Global Harmonization Initiative will present its special session namely “Food Safety, Security, Nutrition and Precision Health“ within the congress on November 3 from 8.30-10.00am in room BR6. Talks within the GHI special session will be:

  • Associate Professor Michael Murkovic on “Chemical food safety in an increasingly complex world”
  • Professor Marco Dalla Rosa on “Anonymous whistleblowing in the food chain”
  • Dr Rui Costa on “The status of whistleblowing legislation in the food sector”
  • Dr Hamid Ezzatpanah on the “The importance of harmonization of law and regulations: Viral decontamination of food, food contact surfaces, and water”
  • Professor Dora Marinova on the “Food and sustainability transition”
  • Dr Diana Bogueva “Consumer Perceptions of alternative proteins”
  • Professor Chin-Kun Wang on “Nutrition and precision health”

The session will be chaired by Dr Huub Lelieveld and Dr Diana Bogueva.


8th International Conference on Dietary Fibre 2022

16. October 2022 to 18. October 2022

The 8th International Conference on Dietary Fibre 2022, organised by the Laboratory of Food Chemistry and Biochemistry of the KU Leuven (BE) and ICC, will be held in Leuven (BE) on 16-18 October 2022.

DF22 is entitled Towards Unlocking the Full Potential of Fibre for Food, Function and Global Health and aims at finding answers to challenging and topical questions, like:

  • Is all undigested food DF?
  • Which novel tools can help unravel DF structure-function relationships in silico and in vivo?
  • What role can DF play in animal protein replacement strategies?
  • Can DF-plant protein interactions be leveraged to improve functionality in food systems?
  • Can food fermentation be used to enhance the functional and nutritional properties of DF?
  • Do purified DF and DF in an intact plant matrix exert different functionalities and health benefits?
  • Can DF properties be directed to optimise the composition of the gut microbiome?

The conference addresses scientists and representatives of the industry and academia from all over the world, bringing together experts of different areas of dietary fibre research, including food (bio)chemistry, (bio)physics, technology, processing, fermentation, quality and human and animal health.

The deadline for submitting abstracts has been extended and you can submit your abstracts for the DF22 until 21st of June 2022. We would be delighted if you take the opportunity to participate in the extension and make numerous contributions!

20th International ICC Conference

ICC and BOKU, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna will organize the 20th International ICC Conference from 5-7 July 2022 in Vienna/Austria, about “Future Challenges for Cereal Science and Technology” (https://www.icc-conference.com).

The program will cover aspects and latest developments starting from crop production with special emphasis on the change of climate and its influence of the world nutrition, via cereal processing, nutrition, analytics, quality and safety up to market trends and consumer demands to tackle the needs in the cereal business today and tomorrow.

The ICC2022 will be a great forum and an excellent opportunity to convene and collaborate, to build new connections and to renew friendships.

All stakeholders in the grain food chains are called to support this event by contributing with their expertise and sharing the results of their work in oral and poster presentations as well as panel discussions and tabletop exhibitions.
